Happy thinking out loud Thursday!
This week has given me a run for my money but I think I might just survive it. Maybe. Hopefully. Though with the weather heating up, I’m not really sure it’s going to matter much…
1 I knew that moving to NorCal would mean increased temperatures in the summer months. It also meant that Ninja and I could afford a house with air conditioning though, so I figured it would be a pretty fair trade off.
But this? This just isn’t even right.
108 y’all. 108!
So if I happen to disappear next week it’s most likely because Ninja and I have packed up the dogs and headed down to the river to live. Seriously, I’m just going to live in the river all summer long.
Pshhh 108 degrees. I’m sweating just thinking about it.
2 Seeing as how hotter temperatures typically mean a lack of appetite for me [unless it’s ice cream!], I’ve started to implement more smoothie bowls into my life. No cooking required means no heat source necessary – ie. a life saver on those miserable 108 degree days.

I’m also really considering going back to my snack plate days, when I just added random bits and bobs to my plate and called it a meal. I love my smoothie bowls though – so right now I’m sticking with them!
3 Suprisingly enough, I’ve also started jumping on board the salad train. I know, I know – who the heck am I?! But guys, this heat is killing me and I just don’t want to cook. I actually shared this salad on Instagram yesterday and am beyond obsessed with it!
BBQ chickpea salad
Here’s what it’s got:
- 1/2 avocado mashed with 1 T greek yogurt, squeeze of lime, sea salt and garlic powder
- chopped tomato
- 1/2 cup cooked quinoa
- 1/2 cup chickpeas mixed with 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
- romaine lettuce
So much yum in one jar! I can guarantee you that this beauty will be on the lunch rotation all summer long.
4 Have you ever got a deal so good at the store that you were almost certain it was a misprint? Or maybe a joke? The deals I snagged this weekend were almost too good to be true – No, really! Just check out these prices…
Each peanut butter was $1.99!
GF pretzels & Powdered PB for $2.99
I mean, really? Was there a close out sale or something?!
I’m not complaining though, especially about those GF pretzels. You guys know that I don’t like buying “GF” labeled products simply because they cost an arm and a leg [and I can make most of it at home!] however for $2.99 a bag I wasn’t about to say no!
5 Though this week has been pretty stressful in terms of work, I must be storing all that stress in my muscles and using it for fuel during my workouts. I’ve been crushing it this week, guys!
215 lb. deadlift PR
I honestly have no idea where that deadlift PR even came from. Basically I was feeling good at 205lbs so I decided to push it and see what happened. Well – 215lbs happened!
6 With Father’s Day this weekend, I’ve started tackling the task of putting together another CD for Daddy. I make one for him every Father’s Day and Christmas – it’s sort of become somewhat of a tradition for us.
So far I’ve got a few good songs for him, but I’m still in need of a few more!
Does anyone have any good “father/daughter” songs that are particularly special to you? They don’t even need to be “father/daughter” – they can just be about dad’s in general.
I’m actually including a few songs on this CD for Brother as well, since Daddy plays the CDs in the house when everyone is just sitting around hanging out. What started as me just sharing some of my favorite songs with my dad has turned more into an entire family thing, which I think is really cool. Brother and Little Sissy typically give me some ideas to put on the CD as well, so it’s a team effort 🙂
Alright – I’m off to make Ninja some dinner. Happy almost Friday!
What grocery store steals have you gotten lately?
Got any good songs for my dad’s CD?
