Happy thinking out loud Thursday!
Another huge storm has hit my neck of the woods, meaning I won’t be doing any outdoor activities any time soon. As much as I love the rain [and I truly do love it!] I don’t so much like being wet – unless I’m playing a soccer game in it! Maybe I’ll head on out to the field and do some drills in the rain this weekend, just for old times sake 😉
Alright – let’s get random!
1 I mentioned in my 2017 fitness goals that I was scaling back my workouts in certain areas and really working on strengthening my back more this year. After last year’s experience with slipped disks and lower back pain I am 100% fully invested into figuring this thing out, I just really wasn’t considering how difficult it would be.
Check the time – that’s as long as I could go before my back seized up on me.
I’ve been trying to incorporate more intervals and sprints into my workouts this year in my attempt to become a more well-rounded athlete. Well, apparently my back isn’t on board with my current techniques.
First off I have to say, I was freaking stoked by how easy I was able to run that 1 1/2 miles cardio-wise. For someone who hasn’t run in over a year I was impressed with my cardio, however the same can’t be said for my back.
Guys, why on earth can I not even run without back pain?
I managed to jog between 5.5 and 6.o for 30 minutes, however I had to stop twice to stretch out my back. I was actually planning on doing sprints after I had warmed up but that quickly changed once I felt my back tightening up on me. To say that I am discouraged is a bit of an understatement. It’s back to the drawing board for me I guess.
2 Ya’ll I was blown away by how many of you had never added bell pepper to your smoothies before! I thought I was the only one behind in the smoothie times 😉
Even though it hasn’t reached over 70 degrees in weeks now, I’ve been having so much fun with my smoothies lately. This one had everything but the kitchen sink in it!
Smoothie: almond milk, banana, red bell pepper, maqui berry powder, spinach, orange
Toppings: blackberries, chia seeds, hemp seeds, orange zest
I know blackberries aren’t in season but I just couldn’t help myself. I gave in to my need for berries this week and bought blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. At least they were on sale? 😉
3 Speaking of in season produce, I have been having a ton of fun lately with the fresh oranges I picked from Daddy’s tree.
If you’ve never had home-grown oranges before you are missing out!!
Can we just pause for a second to marvel at the way God created this world? The fact that He made oranges to be a winter food so as to supply us with vitamin C to boost our immune systems during the colder months [not to mention brighten a dreary day with color and scent!] just amazes me.
I also really, really loved this batch of oranges I picked from Daddy’s. I’ll be out there again soon to replenish my supply!
4 One of my goals for the blog this year is to re-vamp some old posts, whether that be with pictures or Pin-able images. This weekend I tackled my Healthy Cake Batter Pancakes – I forgot how dang tasty these things are!
After a 2 hours gym sesh earlier this week I helped myself to a batch of these beauties. It was the perfect refuel to a tough, sweaty day in the gym! The colorful sprinkles also helped to cheer my up a bit on a dreary and cold day.
5 I’m not sure why but my procrastination levels have been at an all time high this week. I just can’t seem to get anything that I want to done – outside of blogging, of course.
I’ve literally had “trim nails” on my to-do list since Monday and have yet to do it. The universe sent me a sign today when I ripped my nail sliding a weight plate onto a barbell. And since I don’t carry nail clippers with me at the gym [does anyone?] I then proceeded to get said nail caught on my shirt, pants, hair and everything else imaginable. It was miserable.
Note to self – pay attention to your to-do list and actually do it!
And with that reminder I am off to check something else off my list. See you guys soon 🙂
Anyone else struggle with procrastination?
Back pain while running, anyone else?
