Happy thinking out loud Thursday!
I am so excited to share some random bits of my family camping trip with you guys. Although we didn’t do anything overly special, just being able to spend that time with my family and Ninja was absolutely what I needed. I’m sad that the kids are going back to school in two weeks, but hopefully Ninja and I can get back out there for a day or two by ourselves. I’m actually hoping that we can drag the kids down there for a day trip or two before they head back to school, but regardless we made memories on this trip that I hope they hold on to for a long time 🙂
Alright, let’s get random – camping style!
1 Remember how I told you guys the campground was a 1/2 mile walk from the car? Though we got to the site around 10am, it was still awfully hot walking down the trail pulling all our stuff.
Just call me Pack Mule Kat!
We typically only need to make one trip since we pack everything in so tight but since we brought two coolers this time I had to go back for a second trip to get a few extra things. Needless to say I was pretty wiped by the time I reached the camp, but it also gave me some time to snap some pictures and eat some berries!
2 Along my walk back to and from the car I went off on a few trails and
fell into picked a few berries to eat.
Just check out this scenery!
I squeeled when I spied both of these beauties.
Are God’s creations not ridiculously beautiful? Those red leaves were the only ones amongst the green foliage and that sunflower was a lone flower amongst dead grass. Is that amazing or what?
And of course we can’t leave out the blackberries!
I mean, come on!
Little Bro gave me the side eye when I finally returned from camp and asked me what took so long. He took one glance down at my hands and instantly knew 😉
3 Did you guys know that I’m a bit of a pyromaniac? Yep – I totally am. I think I missed my calling as a firefighter actually. Can you imagine how bada$$ I’d be running into burning buildings? Anyway, I’m pretty much obsessed with fires and their beauty. I could stare at them for hours.
Though the sun didn’t really fully go down until 9pm, Daddy started the fire typically around 6:30pm so that we could enjoy some s’mores. And by we I mean Little Sissy and Ninja 😉
4 But fires require firewood, right? Daddy never packs any firewood, but thats because our campground has plenty of fallen trees around to harvest! He brings along two small axes and we break out into teams to find a good amount. Little Sissy and I went out first and got the first night’s load of wood.
Starting our pile!
And because I’m the dorky older sister I had to make Little Sissy take some action shots. What kind of older sister would I be if I didn’t enslave my little sister to take photos for the blog? 😉
Yes, I am standing on a bunch of fallen trees. No, I didn’t really hack away at that giant tree.
5 Without a doubt, my favorite part of the entire camping trip was just spending quality time with my siblings and dad. Sissy and I went on walks and got firewood together. Little Bro and I raced eachother in the river. Daddy and I sat quietly by the fire in the early mornings while everyone else still slept.
It was so nice to be able to get away from the noise of life and just strip it down to what I treasure most in this world – my family.
I’m fairly certain Little Sissy and I will have to swap places next year since she will be taller!
Though we’ve only done this photo twice now, I think this is going to be our annual father/child picture. Not to mention I know how much this photo means to Daddy and I think it would be awesome to watch the growth over the years for Little Sissy and Little Bro.
Just hanging out on a fallen tree!
6 Everyone has their own definition of paradise. For some, it’s a sandy beach with rolling waves. For others, it’s a plush hotel in the center of the city.
For me? This is paradise.
What’s your idea of paradise?
