Set intentions for every area of your life this year with one word. Ideas for implementing your word of the year into your life!
I know that a lot of people set New Year’s Resolutions, however I also know that a lot of people don’t put much intention behind those resolutions. Regardless of this, people seem to make resolutions year after year – all without results because there is simply no motivation or follow through behind it all. Shoot, I’ve even been one of those people, which is probably why I gave up resolution making all together.
Want to know what I do instead? I pick a word of the year to focus on!
This whole “word of the year” thing is totally brand new to me. I know that it has been around for a while now, however I just stumbled upon it and it really “clicked” for me. What is a “word of the year”? Basically at the start of each year [though feel free to start whenever!] you pick a word that you feel is going to motivate and resignate with you for the entire year, then reflect on what areas you can use that word in.
Here is the word that I picked and how I’m planning on using it!
My 2017 Word of the Year
I mentioned it on the blog when I was talking about my 2017 fitness goals, but my word for this year is GROW. When I was thinking about what one word I could use for this year to really impact and motivate me, I didn’t get much further than the word GROW. Simply put – it is what I want for every aspect of my life – growth.
The next step after picking a word is to then think of all the areas in which you would like to apply this word. Because I love to journal [I’m a visual learner!] I decided to create an entire page in my journal dedicated to my word and jotted down the areas in which I wanted to focus on.
How to Implement Your Word of the Year
All the areas I want to GROW in this year!
So in my journal I wrote out my word of the year, then added categories in which I wanted to GROW in. I then listed a few ways or ideas to help me achieve that growth in each category.
The categories I chose were:
Of course these categories can change and be whatever you want them to be! These are just the areas that I chose to focus on. I also made sure to leave a bit of space so that I can add more ideas and such as January progresses. Unlike New Year’s resolutions I feel like a “word of the month” allows more room for trial and error – seeing it written down is motivation and a good reminder, however I can just as easily reflect on my word and change the way I would like to implement it in various areas. Make sense? 😉
And that’s it! So far I have really been enjoying this process and since I journal daily I get to see my word often and it instills a new fire each time.
So tell me, what’s your word of the year?
