Well would you look at that – a recipe that doesn’t invole pumpkin 😉
So guys, the weather out here is straight up bananas. I know that I have been posting Fall recipes like crazy, but the weather here is not representative of Fall. Like, at all.
It was 100 degrees this week. 100 degrees! That my friends, does not scream Fall to me. So while I really wanted to make a pumpkin spice latte this week, you are going to get this iced chocolate matcha latte instead because 100 degree weather calls for all things cold.
Do you guys remember my mini-matcha obsession? First there was the Chocolate Matcha Chia Pudding, then came the Chocolate Matcha Cups and the Matcha Chocolate Chip Energy Bites and now finally we have this Iced Chocolate Matcha Latte. Are you guys seeing a common denominator there? 😉
[If you guessed chocolate, you would be right!]
The truth is that I have a soft spot for matcha. Once upon a time [like 7 years ago], Bestie and I used to go to Starbucks. A Lot. I think we went every Sunday or so, after we had gotten a workout in at the nearby park. I don’t remember exactly how much we went but it must’ve been a lot because the lady who worked there started to know our orders before we even got to the register. Yikes.
Anyway, the drink that I would always order was a non-fat green tea latte. Though coffee is my #1 love there was just something so comforting and delicious about those green tea lattes and because I apparently didn’t know about Pinterest yet, I was unaware that I could make these same delicious lattes at home.
Needless to say those days are over.
And while I do love me a simple green tea latte, I kind of wanted this latte to have a little something extra to it. I played around with the idea of adding pumpkin [no seriously, I did – is that weird?] but in the end my love for all things chocolate eventually won out.
Now let’s get to the flavors here – I was worried at first that the cacao powder might overpower the subtle taste of the matcha powder, but it totally doesn’t! The two pair really well together and make for one delicious iced latte. Just typing this post actually has me craving one…
Ok so now that I am currently sipping on one, I can fully explain how amazing it is. Or not – maybe you should just make it and describe it for yourself 😉
