Snack healthy while you play in the great outdoors with these Healthy Camping Snack Ideas!
I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to go camping many times over the years. Daddy is a big fan of the outdoors and since I spent the summers with him growing up, that meant that I spent a lot of time in the Great Outdoors camping. I have great memories from those times – from whittling down sticks into other shapes to scaling mountains and rocks without any rope. [of course I won’t mention the bad times, like when I tumbled down a road on my mountain bike and tore myself up from my knees to my face]
Now when I talk about camping, I mean 100% bare minimum camping. I’m talking pitching a tent, sleeping on the ground and avoiding mosquitos and poison oak. I know that some people consider sleeping inside a trailer as camping [which is fine], however I do not. I want the real thing – even if it means I come home covered in mosquito bites with a crick in my neck.
I told you that I took that low maintenance thing pretty far, didn’t I? 😉
As I alluded to earlier this week, Ninja and I are heading out to my favorite spot in the world this weekend for a few days of camping. Brother and Little Sissy will be tagging along, which will be the first time that we have taken them camping without Daddy. I’m super pumped to not only get back to my favorite camping spot but to also have the 1-on-1 time with my siblings without the distraction of cell phones and TV.
Taken 2 summers ago – we will need to take an updated one!
With my siblings tagging along, that means that they are at my mercy when it comes to food. Ninja and I are supplying 80% of the food for the trip, with Daddy and Mom#2 coming by in the evenings to bring us dinner and hang out. While we are keeping it basic for breakfasts and lunches, I wanted to make sure that we also had some yummy [yet healthy!] snacks to grab during the day. I asked each of them for some ideas of things that they would like, then put together a list of healthy camping snack ideas. Here’s what I came up with!
Healthy Camping Snack Ideas
My plan for the snacks was to have a batch of fresh snacks and a batch of packaged snacks, that way we can mix and match during our time camping.
Brother requested hummus with pita chips [which I also have] however I slipped some carrots and broccoli into the mix in hopes I can get the kids snacking on some fresh, raw veggies. Grapes and watermelon are also juicy and sweet and will be refreshing in the 110 degree weather that is forecasted.
I also have hardboiled eggs, which I plan on having primarily to myself. Brother might eat one or two, however neither of the kids really enjoy eggs plain, so those are mostly for me!
The place we camp is also surrounded with blackberry bushes, so I plan on walking around each morning collecting a fresh batch for us to munch on with breakfast and snack on during the day.
Brother gets his Complete Cookies and Little Sissy specifically asked for the Chocolate Brownie Clif Bar.
I also have packed:
- turkey & beef jerky sticks
- homemade energy bites
- Health Warrior bars [use code KATALYSTHEALTH30 for 30% off your order!]
- homemade trail mix [peanuts, walnuts, almonds, raisins, cranberries, yogurt covered raisins]
All together now…
As I mentioned above – I am a bare minimum camper. The place that we camp has a 1/2 mile walk from the parking lot to the camp sites, so everything that we bring has to be carried down to our camp site. This keeps our spot nice and private however it also means the less we pack, the less we have to carry, so we like to keep things really easy and light!
Though I have healthy food and snacks packed for this trip, my real focus isn’t on the food at all – it’s on my family. This might be the last camping trip I get with Brother before he’s off to college, so I plan to make the most of each second. I plan on taking pictures, tackling him in the river and stealing the chocolate off his s’mores at night. Who knows – maybe I’ll even get him to enjoy a carrot stick or two! 😉
My siblings and I have so many memories together down at that camping spot, and I can’t wait to make a few more. Be sure to check out my Insta stories this weekend because while I will have my phone turned off most of the time, I’ll undoubtedly have a few highlights to share over the weekend!
