We are officially 3 days into August and the weather in my neck of the woods is still in the 100s – with no signs of dropping anytime soon. All that to say – please don’t start talking about Fall yet. It’s depressing for me.
Like I do with each month, it’s time to recap some of the “currents” that are happening in my life right now. Let’s get to it!
NuNaturals Cocoa Syrup & Cocoa Mint Syrup
So I know that I used these NuNatural syrups in my last Currently round-up, but my obsession has been going strong through this month! In fact, not only have I been adding it to smoothies and hot cocoa in the evenings, but I’ve also added it to a recipe or two, specifically the Healthy S’more Parfaits.
banana smoothie topped with coffee granola, chia seeds & strawberries
chocolate strawberry smoothie topped with hemp seeds & strawberries
The weather this month has been insane. I normally try to avoid turning on the AC so that Ninja and I can save some money on our bill, however by noon it is already 85 degrees – in our house! With temperatures hitting as high as 110 outside, I’ve been enjoying smoothies in all forms, but I’ve really been digging on smoothie bowls especially!
After the passing of Chester [the lead singer of the band] this month, I found myself listening to LP on repeat. Linkin Park has been one of my favorite bands since middle school – their collaboration with JayZ on the Collision Course album is still one of my all time favorite albums out. In fact, most of my workout playlist is LP – and it makes me sad that I won’t ever get new music to add.
I know I’ve already said it but I can’t help but say it again – thank you guys so much for all of your love and support. We live in such a shallow world filled with people who focus so much on tearing others down just to lift themselves up, and its nice to know that we’ve built such a wonderful community here in the blogging world.
I may not have everything figured out in terms of healing and recovery but I do know one thing – you guys have been such a blessing and I am forever grateful for the friendships that I’ve made, so thank you 🙂
Ninja and I treated my siblings to a trip to the Ghirardelli factory this month and omg I forgot how incredible that place is. Not only is the chocolate crazy discounted [5 large bars for $12!] but the amount of fudge that they pour onto those hot fudge sundaes is ridiculous. We pretty much all made ourselves sick – and then wanted to go back the next day for more 🙂
Brother leaves for college early Monday morning, which makes the camping trip we had together that much more important to me. I still can’t believe that my baby brother is all grown up and headed off to college, but it’s happening whether I believe it or not, so I’m just holding onto the memories from our trip together and trying not to lose my marbles. Well, more so then I already have, of course.
If last week taught me anything its that I really need to be spending more time with my journal. I have this habit of bottling things up, holding my emotions inside until they literally burst, and jotting down what is frolicking around in my brain is one of the only ways to keep me from doing that. It also allows me time to be more reflective and really analyze my feelings and emotions, helping me to figure out the source as well as figure out a way to get passed it all.
I’ve been making more of a conscious effort to spend some time with my journal [and a mug of coffee and snack!] each morning when I get home from the gym but it is definitely something that I need to make more of an effort in doing.
Guys – I have been going AMRAP crazy lately! I just can’t get enough of the AMRAP style workouts right now. As you can probably tell, I also can’t get enough of burpees, DB snatch and Push Presses. Those are some of my favorite moves, so I incorporate them whenever I can.
I’ve found that adding a small amount of burpees between each exercise actually keeps the intensity of the workout up – my heart rate never gets a chance to drop as I’m constantly bouncing from strength move to cardio move. It’s also the perfect way to get in a quick yet efficient workout. Who needs an hour long gym session when you can be done in under 30 minutes?!
And that’s it for me today! Thank to Amanda for letting me think out loud.
