Well a few days have passed in May already and I still haven’t posted my April Currents. Oops.
In all honesty guys, I’m struggling to keep pace with the new Trainer job, my freelance work, the blog and life in general. Something is going to have to give eventually, but right now I’m just trying to ride the wave and enjoy the ride. I’m grateful, don’t get me wrong, I’m more so just overwhelmed and trying to figure out how to do it all.
Short answer – I can’t. Longer answer – I’m stubborn and am going to try to figure out a way to do it anyway 😉
Alright, let’s catch up on some happenings in April. Thanks to Amanda for allowing me Think Out Loud today!
Bet your strawberry doesn’t have a cool hat!
My berry consumption has been a tad bit out of control lately, y’all. I’m not even joking – I totally just inhaled a bowl of strawberries 5 minutes ago. Someone save me from myself.
That being said, I’ve at least been putting these gorgeous red berries to good use in a few recipes:
- No-Bake Strawberry Lemon Cheesecake
- Strawberry Cauliflower Smoothie
- Paleo Strawberry Shortcake Skillet
That’s a lot of strawberry recipe goodness there, my friends!
I wish I could say that strawberries are now out of my system, but they aren’t. Nope, not even close. I’ll do my best to spread the recipes out so you don’t get too sick of this gorgeous red berry 😉
What began as a need to re-shoot my old Blueberry Banana Muffins recipe has now become an all out addiction. First of all, if you haven’t checked out the above muffin recipes, what on earth are you waiting for?! Those babies are incredible and need to be in your life, stat. Don’t think – just do. Thank me later 😉
And just when I thought the muffin craving was ending…
Oh look – more strawberries! And chocolate, of course 😉
Rag N Bone Man
I found my new artist crush! His song “Human” is already pretty popular, but I’m really feeling “Skin” as well as “Lay My Body Down”. If you haven’t heard of this guy, I encourage you to check him out. He has such an awesome sounding voice!
Nervous / Anxious
In the middle of this month Ninja and I will be flying to Virginia to visit his sister for a few days. Let me just say that again, we will be flying to Virginia…
Oh Lord help me.
Fun Kat fact – I’m terrified of flying. Actually, I hate it. There is absolutely nothing appealing about it to me whatsoever and I dread trips for months in advance when I know I have to get on a plane. That being said, I know that Ninja really wants to see his family and it isn’t fair of me to keep asking them to come here. So yeah…please pray that I don’t have a nervous breakdown on the flight.
I don’t know how the weather is in your neck of the woods but it is already hot here in farm country. We hit weather in the 80s this past weekend, which gave the family and I the perfect reason to bust out the grill for the first time this season.
Aaaaand now I’m craving grilled everything. Can someone explain what it is about grilling food that makes it taste so much better?
Hopefully you guys have been paying attention because I totally just got a really awesome new job and I’m so beyond thrilled about it. Not only have I seen such growth personally from myself in terms of my self-confidence but I’ve also already seen amazing growth from my clients – which is really what it is all about!
In fact, my morning class has grown tremendously from when I first took over. I started off with about 5-8 people per class and just yesterday had a total of 14 in my class. Talk about growth! Each and every person that walks through my door has been giving me 110% of their effort as well, which is all I could ever ask for.
I’m pretty much just on cloud 9 about it all guys. I love this. Why did I wait so long again?
To go back to Ghirardelli
Ok, so I don’t really need to go back – I just really, really, really want too!
Ninja and I discovered last weekend that we had a Ghirardelli outlet factory and shop only 20 minutes from us and decided to treat ourselves to a full blown sugar coma.
It was worth every single bite.
Traditional Hot Fudge Sundae
Along with our ice creams, I also picked up 5 Ghirardelli chocolate bars for just $12. $12 guys!! They also had their seasonal / holiday stuff on sale and I picked up some dark chocolate peppermint bark for just $.75. Yep – I definitely need to get back there!
Though I have a feeling if I go without Little Sissy again she might murder me in my sleep.
Make the most of this moment. You’ll never get it back.
I wrote this quote / phrase in my journal early this month when I was just getting ready to start my job as a Trainer. It has really stuck with me and has served as a constant reminder to make the most of each second, each breath and each moment that I am given. Life is not a guarantee guys – we are here one day and gone the next. Don’t wait for tomorrow – make the most of your life right now.

Returning to the 200lb. deadlift club
I actually haven’t performed any heavy deadlifts for the last two weeks thanks to the intense digging we’ve been doing in our backyard [my back is so not a fan of it!] but earlier this month I smashed my goal of 200lbs. on deadlifts by lifting 205lbs for 4 sets of 3 reps.
And I am seriously so excited about it.
It’s been a long journey to recovery from my latest back injury and I may be being a tad bit overly cautious about it, but my back is finally feeling pain-free for the first time in years – and I’m not about to jeopardize that.
I actually got under the bar for the first time in a long time this week and performed a few pain-free squats, which was also really exciting for me. I’m still not 100% sure of my goals when it comes to fitness anymore but I’m having fun just going in there and pushing myself every day. It’s nice to finally be able to workout without pain again.
And there you have it – my April Currents! Here’s to hoping that May will be just as exciting, even more delicious and perhaps even more challenging.
May the 4th be with you.
