This Blackberry Turmeric Smoothie Bowl is full of antioxidants and inflammation-fighting power – but no one will even know it! Creamy, dreamy and full of delicious berry flavor, this smoothie bowl is vegan and paleo.
So if you caught yesterday’s post, you may have seen this one coming.
I mean, I’m pretty much turmeric obsessed right now. I’ll actually even let you in on a little secret – looks around to see if anyone is listening, leans in close to the computer and whispers, “I totally have a turmeric muffin recipe coming soon.” Shhhhhh, it’s our little secret! 😉
No but really – turmeric is pretty much the goddess of all spices. Remember the last smoothie recipe with turmeric I posted? That Immune Boosting Smoothie was my go-to smoothie for nearly the entire month of December. So good!
Turmeric’s numerous health benefits are thanks to its prime ingredient, curcumin. Curcumin has been shown to:
- be a powerful antioxidant
- fight inflammation
- protect the heart
- fight cancer cells
- protect against age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s
Crazy good stuff, am I right?!
As someone who has a long family history of cancers, protecting myself in every way possible from the horrible disease is a really big priority of mine. I do what I can to make sure I am keeping my ginger skin out of the sun, I try to keep my intake of sugars and processed foods to a minimum and I always make sure to load up on antioxidants in any way, shape or form. Which is just one of the reasons why I adore turmeric so much!
And while I love the turmeric flavor in my Golden Milk Lattes, this Blackberry Turmeric Smoothie Bowl pretty much has none of that thanks to the delicious berry flavor. What better way to sneak in some extra super nutrients into your diet [or your family’s!]?!
But let’s talk berries for just a moment here. They are the center of this blackberry turmeric smoothie after all! 😉
As far as berries go, blackberries aren’t even in my top 3.
That is of course until summer hits and the blackberry bushes alongside my favorite camping spot start to bloom. Those blackberries are truly and utterly the most incredible, juicy, flavorful and perfect berries I have ever tasted. Remember how I got lost during last year’s camping trip because I was gathering berries? Yep – I can’t wait until I can do it again!
And while I will snack of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries by the handful, I typically won’t do so with blackberries unless they are fresh picked off my camping site bushes.
That being said, blackberries make some of the prettiest and tastiest smoothies in my opinion.
Does anyone else feel that each berry has their thing? For me, blackberries are awesome in smoothies while strawberries are fantastic as-is, raspberries are best in baked goods or jam form and blueberries are best in muffins.
Then again my cravings change on a daily basis, so all of what I just said could all be relative to how I’m feeling right now as I sit here. Whatever.
But turmeric and blackberries aren’t the only two ingredients in this amazing blackberry turmeric smoothie! I also threw in some chia seeds and hemp seeds for added oomph and nutrients – can’t go wrong with healthy fats and plant-based protein!
And now for the real question – why is it a smoothie bowl?!
I think the better question here is – why not? 😉
- 1 cup almond milk
- ½ banana, frozen
- ½ cup blackberries, fresh
- ¼-1/2 teaspoon turmeric, depending on preference
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 6 ice cubes
- maple syrup, optional
- Place all of the ingredients into a high speed blender.
- Blend on high until smooth.
How do you like to eat blackberries?
