This Black Forest Pudding is a rich and creamy dessert made without dairy or processed sugars! Rich chocolate pudding made from a secret ingredient is pulsed together with delicious, sweet cherries for the ultimate Black Forest Pudding dessert.
Choosing a favorite flavor combination would be like choosing a favorite sibling for me.
It’s just simply not possible.
That being said there are some flavor combinations that I consider untouchable – funnily enough, most of those combos include chocolate. Does that say something about me? #chocoholic 😉
Anyway, one of those untouchable flavor combos for me would be chocolate and cherry.
I actually blame Daddy for that one. Though he does have many favorites when it comes to ice cream flavors, one of his all time favorites [and the one he normally reaches for 1st!] would have to be Cherry Garcia. I actually thought it was gross growing up – and thus figured that’s why Daddy liked it, so that none of his kids would snag a bite from him, but as I grew older I started to develop better tastebuds and realized just how magical that chocolate and cherry combo is.
And as a result I’m pretty much head over heals in love with it now.
Do you guys remember the Chocolate Cherry Overnight Oats recipe from a year or so back? Though I have quite a few overnight oats recipes on the blog, that recipe is by far the one that I’ve made most often. Even though cherry season doesn’t last as long as I wish it would, I have started to use frozen cherries – just so that I can make my beloved chocolate cherry overnight oats!
But let’s not talk about the end of cherry season. Let’s celebrate the fact that they are here now!
So what is so special about this Black Forest Pudding?
Well, besides the fact that it is dairy-free, refined sugar free, vegan and paleo, it is also packed with essential healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Though I’ve never been a huge proponent of using avocados as a substitute for frosting on cakes [because I’m a frosting snob and want the real thing!], I do think that avocado pudding is extremely underrated.
I mean, have y’all ever had a creamier, thicker or richer pudding than one made from avocados? Don’t you dare lie!
And what’s better than an incredibly rich, creamy pudding that is free of artificial ingredients and can be made in under 5 minutes flat?
I’m a huge fan – and though I don’t make it too often due to how expensive avocados can be and how often I use them for other things [avocado toast, smoothies, guacamole, etc], I do get the hankering every once in a while for the thick, creamy texture that only avocados can provide in a pudding.
Whiccccch is how this Black Forest Pudding came to life.
And I’ll be straight up honest with you guys, I’m already thinking up ways to re-use this recipe.
Black Forest Pudding Triffle?
Black Forest Pops?
Black Forest Pie?
The ideas are flowing – and the amount of avocados that I need to buy is increasing. 😉
But whether or not those recipes ever come to fruition, this one sure has – and it is delicious. Thick, creamy, rich and chock full of those perfectly sweet cherries, you won’t find this pudding in a box on the shelf. So grab yourself some avocados and cherries and get to work – you’ll have an incredible dessert in under 5 minutes!
- 2 large avocados, pitted
- 1 banana, ripe
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ cup almond milk
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- ¼ cup cherries, chopped
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips, dairy-free
- Add avocados, banana, cocoa powder, almond milk and maple syrup to a food processor or blend. Blend on high until smooth.
- Stir in the cherries and chocolate chips.
- Place pudding in the fridge for at least one hour to allow flavors to marry and pudding to thicken. It will become thicker as it sits.
- Top with extra chopped cherries and chocolate chips before serving, if desired.
