Chock full of antioxidants and healthy fats, this Almond Butter Grape Smoothie is a vegan and paleo treat!
A smoothie recipe in winter? Yep – this ginger knows no limits! 😉
I actually rushed to get this recipe up today so that in wouldn’t be up too late in December. While I’m all for people following their own schedules when it comes to blogging, most people aren’t going to care much about a smoothie recipe when they are being snowed in, am I right?
This almond butter grape smoothie recipe was actually supposed to go live in October… which then became Novemeber…and now has become December [almost]. See? I suck at this whole blog planning thing.
Anyway, this almond butter grape smoothie is just one recipe that I couldn’t let slip through my fingers, and once you whip yourself up one you’ll totally understand why. It’s creamy, delicious and ohhhh so amazing. And did I mention it had almond butter in it? Drool, ya’ll.
The inspiration for this smoothie combo actually came from my PB&J smoothie recipe.
I was craving the original recipe but wanted to swap out the peanut butter for almond butter. I got as far as that before I realized that I didn’t have any more jelly on hand. What I did have on hand however, was fresh, juicy red grapes. Cue me dumping in a handful or two and crossing my fingers – then being pleasantly surprised [ok so more totally blown away] by the end result.
The flavor guys – it’s unreal!
Has anyone ever tried blending fresh grapes into their smoothie? It’s pretty much my new favorite thing. Not only does it add sweetness and a delicious flavor but grapes are also chock full of healthy antioxidants – aka the little warriors that protect our cells and body from damaging free radicals. Combine those antioxidants with the heart-healthy omega 3’s found in almond butter and you’ve got yourself one healthy drink!
It’s also really, really pretty.
Another sneaky benefit to this almond butter grape smoothie? Skin health!
The antioxidants found in the fresh grapes protect the skin by limiting the damaging effects of free radicals, which can cause skin damage and early signs of aging. Almonds [and thus almond butter] are rich in vitamin E that help to nourish the skin and reduce the signs of aging.
As an added bonus almonds contain high levels of the antioxidants catechin, epicatechin, quercetin and kaempferol – compounds that fight skin cancer.
Can I get a fist pump for this smoothie? *FIST PUMP*
Maybe I should call this smoothie the Healthy Skin Elixer instead? 😉 Oh and if you want to really bump up the antioxidant content, go on ahead and throw in a tablespoon of raw cacao powder. I’ve done it myself and it is a fabulous addition. Maybe making this smoothie chocolate would make it more of a winter smoothie? Kidding.
Dairy-free, gluten-free and sweetened naturally, this almond butter grape smoothie is a healthy skin-boosting treat that tastes great and is packed with nutrients!
